June 3, 2025, Los Angeles — Saint Mark Parish, a vital part of the Our Lady of the Angels Pastoral Region of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, will unveil a striking new mural on June 8, 2025, at 7:00 PM. The dedication ceremony will be led by Bishop Matthew G. Elshoff, OFM Cap, alongside Pastor Father Albert Van der Woerd, Deacon Charlie Echeverry and renowned muralist, Presa Hall.

Positioned at the bustling intersection of Lincoln Blvd & Garfield Ave, where more than 100,000 commuters and pedestrians will see it daily, the mural is not just a work of art—it’s a new landmark; a bold declaration of the parish's spiritual identity and a visual embrace of its vibrant Venice arts and media community.

A Tapestry of Saints: Diverse, Devout, and Courageous

Father Albert envisioned this mural as a reflection of Saint Mark's enduring legacy—portrayed through the lives of four heroic figures, each with a connection to the parish:

  • Saint Mark the Evangelist – Patron of the parish, gospel author, and fearless chronicler of Christ's ministry, his image appears as a gleaming 6th century Greek mosaic.

  • Saint Candidus – A Roman soldier of the Theban Legion and martyr whose relics were brought to California by Bishop Amat, the first bishop of Los Angeles.

  • Blessed Marie Rose Durocher – A pioneering educator and founder of the Sisters of the Holy Name, whose vision helped establish Saint Mark School.

  • Blessed Miguel Pro – A defiant voice of faith during Mexico’s religious persecution. Executed for performing his priestly duties, he died with arms outstretched in Christ’s likeness, boldly proclaiming: “¡Viva Cristo Rey!” (Long live Christ the King!)

Together, these saints tell a story of courage, education, sacrifice, and evangelization—mirroring the journey of Saint Mark’s parishioners across generations.

The Artist: Presa Hall — Beauty with Purpose

Commissioned for her deeply humanistic style and passion for community impact, Presa Hall brings this mural to life with her signature fusion of beauty and meaning. A proud voice for women in the arts, Hall says her goal is simple but powerful: to create art that unites, uplifts, and inspires.

“I want people to see this mural and feel a part of something bigger—something hopeful,” said Hall. “Art has the power to change the way we see the world, and this mural is my offering to this community.”

A Night to Remember

The mural dedication promises to be a moment of unity, prayer, and celebration—an artistic beacon for Venice and beyond. Join us on Sunday, June 8 at 7:00 PM for this landmark event at Saint Mark Parish. All are welcome.
